Going Tankless!
door to door floors
It's not exactly an inexpensive improvement, a tankless water heater is roughly three times as expensive compared to the old fashioned water heater with a tank. However, the investment pays for itself in quality, conservation and efficiency. One single tankless water heater can often replace two water heaters with tanks, and the tankless version usually reduces water-heating bills by more than 50 percent.
Tankless water heaters also are better for the environment because they are at least twice as efficient as a new tank heater and each tankless emits 700 pounds less carbon dioxide into the air than a traditional 40 gallon tank water heater does. The best reason to get one is that our family and over night guests won't have to alternate shower times or be caught in a chilly bath.

Click Wars!

A decade of multi-million dollar patent infringement lawsuits was necessary to firmly establish mechanical locking systems in laminate, resilient and hardwood while setting precedence and creating respect for flooring-related intellectual property, according to those participating in the long, costly dispute.

In 1997 Belgium-based Unilin entered the North American market with Quick-Step, the first broadly marketed glueless, floating, mechanically locking laminate floor line featuring what would become the world renowned Uniclic locking system. Sweden-based Valinge, however, was already licensing Alloc, a very successful aluminum mechanical locking system based on patents dating back to 1994.

"The early and costly litigations have laid a foundation and established principles for new players and new IP protected technologies," said Darko Pervan, founder and chairman of the board, Valinge. "In general, this will give major benefits to all parties involved since no one can afford to make innovations if other can get them for free."

Helpful Tip!

When you want to preserve leftovers, freezing is a great option. However, the key to stretching your savings is knowing how to properly store your food. Here are some tips on how to stretch your dollars.
First, forget the plastic wrap. Although it's convenient to roll some out and cover a plate, the product won't give you a tight seal, and you'll end up with freezer burn. Freezer burn is the loss of water molecules, which causes food to become dehydrated. That's the exact opposite of what you want to do, which is to keep your food fresh even when frozen.

Instead, invest in plastic containers and re-sealable bags. These days, companies make disposable varieties that can be reused and washed a number of times. Re-sealable zipper storage bags offer the best function and value for under $4 a box. Once you've packed your leftovers, place them in the freezer, making sure to leave plenty of room around the bag or other container. This allows cool air to circulate around the vessel and freezes evenly. Once your leftovers are fully frozen, you can stack them on other items in your freezer.

For liquids, re-sealable zipper storage plastic bags are key. Not only are they budget-friendly at under $4 a pack, but they're durable, as well. Fill a bag with your liquid, and lay flat to freeze. Once it's frozen, store the bag in an upright position. The flat shape is great for thawing, too. Don't forget to mark the date on your bags and containers, food doesn't last forever even in the freezer.

With these tips, your leftovers will stay fresh longer, and you can keep saving your money, instead of spending it.

Winter Recipe

Chicken Tostada Recipe

Shredded Deli-bought rotisserie chicken
1/2 cup cilantro leaves
2 tablespoons paprika
12 6-inch corn tostadas
Salt to taste
2 mangos peeled and diced
3 avocados
2 diced tomatoes
1 minced garlic clove
1/2 minced red onion
1/4 cup lime juice
2 minced jalapenos
crumbled feta cheese

1 For the salsa, mix mango, tomato, red onion, one minced jalapeno, cilantro and half of the lime juice in a medium bowl. Season with salt to taste.
2 To make the guacamole, halve the avocadoes and scoop out with a spoon and into a mixing bowl. Add minced garlic and remaining lime juice over the avocadoes and mash. Season with salt to taste. Add in diced cilantro and remaining minced jalapeno.
3 Toss the shredded rotisserie chicken with the paprika. Spoon some of the chicken onto each tostada and serve with the feta cheese, salsa and guacamole.
4 Enjoy
