Going Green!

No matter where you are on the Green Spectrum, it's important to understand how the majority of consumers feel about environmentally friendly products. And, their feelings may surprise you.
According to the World Floor Covering Association, the popularity of recycled flooring is growing, but it still isn't something that the majority of consumers seek. Most people, according to the WFCA, are looking for style and a specific price point, and the decision to go green is not the ultimate goal, but instead — a deal-closer.
In fact, consumers are often astonished to learn that the floors they love are made from recycled products, and understandably so. Green floors are constructed of a variety of seemingly odd materials like cork, bamboo, recycled ceramics, leather car seat scraps, recycled soda bottles and more..

The Next Big Thing!

From carpet to sheet vinyl, to laminate and hand-scraped hardwood, flooring retailers are always on the lookout for the "Next Big Thing." Recent research indicates that the "Next Big Thing" may be the "Next Big Green Thing."
According to the American Institute of Architects' Home Design Trend Survey of 500 firms concentrating on residential architecture, "The demand for sustainable materials and solutions continues to rise," and 51% indicated their clients would pay more for renewable flooring.
The flooring industry has several options that fit this category, but not many have the unique combination of features and benefits that cork flooring provides. Cork is the only flooring surface that performs like hard-surface flooring AND has the warmth and comfort of soft-surface flooring. And, cork is one of the most renewable and sustainable floor coverings.

Hardwood Floor Cleaning!
Bruce Floor Cleaner and Polycare available
in our showroom

Hardwood floors are very easy to clean and maintain, if done correctly. It is equally important as making the choice of hardwood floors. And yes, cleaning and maintaining hardwood floors will surely be worth it in terms of a longer life for your floor.
The most important rule when it comes to cleaning hardwood floors is to avoid water. Water can damage your hardwood floor taking away all the expense, effort and time spent in putting the floors. Spills should be cleared immediately, otherwise the water can seep into wood causing the finish to split and your floors to warp and cup. Also, do not use water when cleaning hardwood floors. Hardwood floors can be used in bathrooms, laundry rooms and kitchens but extra care must be given for any spills that may occur.
For the day-to-day cleaning of your hardwood floors, use a soft, fine bristle broom to sweep and remove dirt and grit. Dirt, grit and debris can also be prevented from coming onto the floor by placing mats and rugs at all entrances.
You can also vacuum your hardwood floors while using a soft brush as an attachment. Vacuuming can be done twice a week. Later, a damp mop can be used to wipe the floor. But be careful! A damp mop means it should be damp, and not dripping with water.
Oil soaps should not be used as they can leave a residue on the floor. Neutral pH based wood floor cleaners can be used when cleaning hardwood floors. Make sure you dry the floor soon after getting rid of the stain.
