Protect Your Hardwood Floor

door to door floors
1. Daily Dust: This is one of the most overlooked and simple steps in the process. Dust daily to keep dust and dirt off the floor. This will prevent scratching and extend the beauty and life of your floor. Daily dust mopping will also significantly reduce allergens in the home. More effective than traditional methods, a microfiber material uses static charge to attract more dust and allergens. These smaller fibers reach into floor pores to lift dirt more effectively.
2. Weekly Clean: There's a right way to clean floors, and there's a wrong way. Too much liquid can damage floors, while the wrong formula may not work. Look for pH neutral, nontoxic and biodegradable formulas to clean effectively and keep your home and environment safe. Vinegar, for example, can eat away at finish, even when diluted with water. Use a washable microfiber pad, which will remove bacteria and keep waste out of landfills.
3. Quarterly Polish: Use water based polishes to restore luster and shine every two to three months. These polishes won’t leave a residue or emit harmful toxins, plus they'll prevent over cleaning and stripping of your floor. Durable, urethane based polishes have fast dry times, no waxy buildup and a protective wear layer to fill in micro scratches and even out the appearance of the floor.

Fall is the best time to plant pansies because the still warm soil temperatures give their roots time to establish. By planting in fall, you'll get two seasons of enjoyment out of these cool-season favorites. Remove spent flowers so the plant doesn't use its energy to set seeds, and keep the soil moist. After the soil freezes, mulch plants to prevent alternate freezing and thawing cycles that can heave plants out of the ground.

Winterize Koi Ponds

doylestown floor install
Winters are a trying time for koi pond owners. The pond is "closed down” for the season, feeding has slowed and the koi are dormant.
Start feeding your koi a wheat germ in early fall as the temperature drops as it will help them to clear their digestive system for the winter.
Preparing your koi for winter - Every pond will cool down and warm up at a different rate and that’s why you should have a pond thermometer. Once your pond water reaches 55 degrees, feeding of the koi should stop completely (There is plenty of food for them to eat on the sides and bottom of your pond).
As the water continues to cool, the koi go into a dormant
stage. Dormancy is when koi run on a low metabolic rate so when they are in cold water they need feeding less. During this time they live off their stored fat.
On warm days do not be tempted to feed your fish because they are showing some activity. Their bodies are still running at a low metabolic rate and they are unable to digest
the food they eat.
Closing your pond down for the winter
: There are many different choices when it comes to shutting the pond down completely for the winter or to let it stay running. It really comes down to the individual pond. If you have plumbing exposed to freezing, the best thing is to shut the filter down and empty the pipes. If your pipes are frost proof, then it is possible to keep the pond circulating thru the winter.
The proper size aerator is a must and that’s why it’s so important to know the size of your pond and your fish load. Too much oxygen is just as bad as none. Consider a pond heater or floating deicer if you have a shallow pond. Remember, It’s
crucial to keep an opening in the surface to release toxic gases and provide oxygen and do not hammer or drill the ice and if necessary add hot water to melt a hole.
notably, the best way to ensure your koi come out of the winter season healthy is to have them at a
good body weight and parasite free.

Doylestown Floor Fall Recipe and Turkey Give-Away

Thanksgiving Turkey

Turkey Give-Away Details:
Free turkey for every flooring installation over $1000 between November 1st and November 25th. Floor installation deposit must be received by November 25th.

Turkey Recipe:
1 large whole turkey, giblets removed
2 cups kosher salt
1/2 cup melted butter
2 large onions, peeled and chopped
4 carrots, peeled and chopped
4 chopped stalks celery
2 sprigs of thyme
1 cup white wine
1 bay leaf
Rub the turkey inside and out with the kosher salt. Place the turkey in a large stock pot, and cover with cold water. Place in the refrigerator, and allow the turkey to soak in the salt and water mixture overnight.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Thoroughly rinse the turkey, and discard the brine mixture.
Brush the bird with 1/2 the melted butter. Place breast side down on a roasting rack in a shallow roasting pan. Stuff the turkey cavity with 1 onion, 1/2 the carrots, 1/2 the celery, 1 sprig of thyme, and the bay leaf. Place the remaining vegetables and thyme around the bottom of the roasting pan, and cover with 1 cup of white wine.
Roast uncovered for 4 hours in the preheated oven, until the internal temperature of the thigh reaches 180 degrees. Carefully turn the turkey breast side up about two thirds through the roasting time, and brush with the remaining butter. Allow the turkey to stand about 30 minutes before carving.
